We are remembering former Arbor Acres President and CEO David Piner following his unexpected passing. For more than 31 years, David’s visionary leadership, creativity, warmth, and remarkable wit helped shape the community we know and cherish today. His fingerprints can be found throughout Arbor Acres — in the beauty of our campus, the spirit of our culture, and the meaningful connections that define this community.
In the words of current President and CEO Andrew Applegate, David’s immediate successor, “David was like a potter at the wheel. He shaped and defined Arbor Acres in details both great and small with care and intention. As I reflect on David’s life, I am reminded that the truest measure of leadership is servanthood. It is nurtured in relationships, and the bonds of communities strengthened. By that measure, David’s impact was extraordinary.”
Those who knew David remember his ability to bring people together, to lead with both wisdom and compassion, and to bring joy even in difficult moments. His legacy lives on not only in the places and programs he helped create, but in the countless lives he touched through his service and friendship.
We remain deeply grateful for the lasting impact of his life and leadership and will remember him for the one word that reflected his deepest desire for those he encountered—love!
