Artist Spotlight, July 2026: Amanda Harrell, Director of Nursing Arts

This month, we were thrilled to ask Amanda, one of our many longtime employees, to share her story:

“I started at Arbor Acres in 1999. I had been at the hospital for almost five years and was working 3rd shift. I admire those who work 3rd shift and love it—it is not for everyone! One of my good friends told me about Arbor Acres. I was a little apprehensive at first, because growing up, I had been in ‘rest homes’ or ‘nursing homes’ to visit relatives. I decided to apply and the day I interviewed, I knew Arbor Acres was certainly not like the rest!

My daughter, who is my youngest child, graduated from high school in May. She will be going off to college in August. It’s a bittersweet feeling. As a parent, you want to see your kids grow up and become adults. Yet, at the same time, where did the time go?

It’s hard to pick just one STEWARD value as the most important one. To me, they all go hand-in-hand (Stewardship, Trust, Excellence, Well-being, Artistry, Respect, Diligence). Arbor Acres has always stood out from the other communities. We take pride in our campus and care for residents, and are always striving to do better. On the flip side, the residents are always looking for ways to support the Artists.

Having been here for 27 years, it’s hard to pick one favorite story or memory. Sometimes, you just never know what is going to happen next! We see a lot of different personalities in the licensed healthcare areas!”
