Bags of Love: Bridging Generations through Care

Mary Beth Beck-Henderson, one of Arbor Acres’ chaplains, organized a meaningful service project recently that brought together residents to help mothers in the local community who are receiving services through Imprints Cares, a local education nonprofit that helps families thrive.

Mary Beth worked for 19 years at Imprints Cares—including three years part-time while attending Divinity School. She understands firsthand the challenges families face through Imprints Cares’ mission to address structural barriers that prevent children and their families from reaching their full potential. Imprints Cares is the only local education nonprofit that serves families from prenatal stages through middle school with onsite and in-home care.

Residents enthusiastically embraced the project. They packed 50 self-care bags filled with such items as hand lotion, lip gloss, loofa sponges, eye masks, and notes of encouragement for moms participating in the Ready for School Program. Mary Beth then delivered the lovingly prepared bags to Imprints Cares, knowing they would reach moms who would appreciate the thoughtful gesture.

“This project demonstrated the power of intergenerational caring and volunteerism,” says Mary Beth. “Residents found purpose in supporting young moms facing challenges and enhanced their own well-being in the process of giving back to help others in the greater community.”

Below are photos of the Arbor Acres residents’ service project and completed bags, some of the Imprints Cares staff with Mary Beth (L to R: Carrie Pasquale, Kim Turner-Kendricks, Laurie Brown, Angelisheé Conrad, and Mary Beth), and children who attend Imprints Cares’ summer camp.
