The work at Arbor Acres delivers beauty in one of its endless manifestations, that’s why all Arbor Acres staff members are called ARTISTS. You see it in the lovingly made bed, in the sparkle of a well-cleaned home, in food delicately seasoned and arranged like sculpture on a china plate. Each work group at Arbor Acres is known for the Professional Art that defines its purpose: Dining Arts, Nursing Arts, Recreation Arts and more. Arbor Acres rises to the level of Art because everything done here emerges from the souls of professional artists who generate beauty here day after day.
The values that give rise to the Professional Arts of Arbor Acres are: Artistry, Reverence, Talent, Innovation, Service, and Truth. They spell ARTIST. They remind us of who we are, and what it is we must deliver to those we serve.

For nearly 30 years I have had the opportunity to be involved in a vocation where my gifts, my calling and even my weakness have found a home. My greatest desire as a leader is to create environments where an individual’s mission and passion comes together to achieve a bigger purpose. My mantra as of late has been “At Arbor Acres, we set the stage for life’s next great performance”. To me, each of us is looking for the opportunity to play the unique role we were created to play. Seeing the wonderful expressions of residents and our artist staff’s unique art coming together to create something bigger and beautiful is what sets Arbor Acres apart from the rest.

Keeping the finances in order is a challenge for an organization such as ours. My staff and I are involved with the numbers and the details which are an essential part of maintaining the financial viability of any organization. My responsibility at Arbor Acres comes down to seeing that the dollars get into the right bucket as they are received, come out of the right bucket as they are spent and to be sure the bucket does not get empty.

Prior to Arbor Acres, my public accounting career allowed me to engage with many companies in different industries. Eventually I decided that I wanted to draw on that experience to help a single organization continue its growth and prosperity, while allowing me to engage more deeply with stakeholders. I chose Arbor Acres because of its unique position in the Winston-Salem community, serving older adults and employing a diverse workforce, both are key attributes of the organization I enjoy serving.
Director of Philanthropy, since 2013
The words “philanthropic arts” just sound beautiful. My responsibilities include making sure all residents live life fully, and no one ever has to leave… and that is a beautiful thing. It means serving those with financial resources as well as those who have nothing. While I am finding ways to engage the community in our mission and support our $1.3 million financial assistance need, I am also interacting with the most delightful people you can imagine and enjoying fellowship that is fulfilling and rewarding. I love my job. My favorite part? Meeting the folks who are considering one of the most important changes in their lives, relating to them, developing a relationship with them, understanding their needs as they consider a move into a retirement community, and explaining all Arbor Acres has to offer. Mostly though, I love hearing their life stories. That never ceases to fascinate me.

Over the many years I've been at Arbor Acres, I've made great friends here. Colleagues, yes, but mostly with a resident population that appreciates what we can do for them, whether they've lived here one year or twenty. One of my greatest joys is working alongside new residents, creating the home they want as they enter, and helping them transition to a new lifestyle.

As a health and wellness professional, my primary focus is to help create every opportunity available to explore the vast dimensions of wellness throughout our beautiful community. I believe wellness isn’t about measuring the years in your life, but the life in your years. I am blessed with the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of the residents of Arbor Acres every day.

Just as I did not envision myself returning to graduate school at the age of 48 after a career in law, neither did I envision that my ministry as a chaplain would be in the service of the senior community. What a joy and privilege I have been given. The work here is challenging, but it is also tremendously fulfilling. As I seek to minister and enrich, I find that I receive ministry and enrichment in equal measure both from our residents here at Arbor and from my fellow staff and employees as well. There abides in all of us at Arbor Acres a deeply held commitment to mission and community.

It is truly amazing to hear so many life stories and experiences! Every resident at Arbor Acres is an unique individual, and my goal is to see every one of them enjoy life at the highest possible level of emotional, physical, and social well-being. Whether it's for residents or their families, I'm here to answer any question. Every day, Arbor Acres proves it is a special place with special people.
Hannah Yoon (and Drex)

My love for aging services started when I was a young girl who frequently asked her mom, "What day this month are we going to the nursing home?" I loved volunteering. This was the beginning of the path that would one day bring me to Arbor Acres. I have a close work companion, Drex. He is a service dog through Canine Companions for Independence. He works alongside me, has his own duties and responsibilities, and possesses powers of perception that enable him to serve as a loving companion for people who have dementia. My passion is to foster living that is purposeful and meaningful for those with dementia. I am grateful for the opportunities Arbor Acres has given me to move into the position of Healthcare Administrator.

Throughout my career as a communications and public relations consultant, I have always enjoyed building relationships and telling stories. I am thrilled that my life journey brought me to Arbor

Aging is not what I do, it’s what I am. My passion for working in the aging field is a passion that continues to blossom. Arbor Acres is a community where aging is beautiful, embraced, and most importantly, celebrated. As the Marketing/Move-In Coordinator, I have the joy of connecting with folks who are considering calling Arbor Acres home. I thrive on helping them transition to this special place. What a magnificent place to be!

If I don't know the answer, I will try to find it. Working at the main desk you have to enjoy people and I do. I love meeting all the smiling faces interested in living here. I adore getting to see so many of the folks that already call Arbor Acres home and most of all helping to make sure they are enjoying this time in their lives. This is a great place to work, and I thrive on being in a position where I get to know, love, and, hopefully, make a difference for so many.
