Arbor Acres Hires First Wellness Director

Arbor Acres Hires Alice Smith as Director of Wellness Arts  

Arbor Acres announces that it has hired Alice Smith as the retirement community’s director of Wellness Arts. In this newly created position, Smith will oversee the growth and development of Arbor Acres’ holistic wellness program for residents and staff. At Arbor Acres, “the Art of Wellness” refers to a philosophy that focuses on programs and engagement opportunities to nurture the social, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, vocational and physical aspects of wellbeing.  

Smith comes to Arbor Acres from Novant Health in Winston-Salem where she served as a Community Wellness and Education Dietitian for the past four years. In this position, she led a 10-person multi-disciplinary team of exercise specialists, health educators, nurses, wellness coaches and behavioral therapists in the instruction of a weight management program for adults. She also developed, delivered and evaluated innovative nutrition education programs for diverse populations.  

Smith obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Foods with a concentration in Dietetics and her Master of Science in Nutrition from Appalachian State University. She is certified as a Registered Dietitian, Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist, and Health and Wellness Coach. In addition, she holds certificates of Training in Adult Weight Management and Training in Integrative and Functional Medical Nutrition Therapy.
