What is Arbor Acres?
Arbor Acres United Methodist Retirement Community is a full-service, accredited Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) that opened in March 1980. We are organized under the North Carolina Non-Profit Corporation Act and are affiliated with the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church.
What does "CCAC-accreditation" mean?
Arbor Acres is accredited by the Continuing Care Accreditation Commission of the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA). Accreditation is a voluntary process that measures continuing care retirement communities against stringent national standards for excellence. Arbor Acres meets or exceeds standards in all the defined areas of inquiry including Governance, Resident Life, Finance and Health Care.
What makes Arbor Acres special?
Arbor Acres provides a full spectrum of services designed to meet the spiritual, intellectual, physical, psychological, recreational and social needs of our residents. We provide the facilities, programs and support services that our residents' diverse lifestyles require. Additionally, as a ministry of the Church, we accomplish our objectives in a loving, supportive atmosphere and are guided by Christian principles. This unique atmosphere is frequently referred to as our "special spirit." As a not-for profit retirement community, Arbor Acres uses its financial resources to enhance the quality of life for our residents and to advance the mission of Arbor Acres.
Is Arbor Acres a tax-exempt organization?
Yes. Arbor Acres is a 501(c)(3) organization under Federal law and is also a tax-exempt organization under North Carolina law. Gifts are tax-deductible.
Where is Arbor Acres located?
Our community is located on a 72-acre rolling meadow within the city limits of Winston-Salem. Winston-Salem, rich in cultural heritage and the performing arts, is in the Piedmont area of North Carolina: 4 hours from the beach and 2 hours from the mountains. Residents are 30 minutes away from our regional airport and also have quick access to major hospitals and medical school, multiple shopping centers, theatres, major universities, community service organizations and recreational parks.
What are the residency requirements?
The minimum age for entrance to Arbor Acres is 62. In the case of a married couple, if one spouse is 62, then the minimum age for the other spouse is 60.
Applicants to our independent living accommodations must be in good health and able to maintain an autonomous lifestyle. Arbor Acres is designed to accommodate approximately 400 residents, When space is unavailable, waiting lists are maintained. When space is available, direct admission to Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing may be possible.

What types of living accommodations are offered?
STUDIO ROOMS
(Located in Residential Wings) One bedroom, with either
an alcove or bay window, and a private bath. Studios
are attractive, convenient, and
affordable.
CONNECTING ROOM SUITES
(Located in Residential Wings) Two-room accommodations
create an affordable option that features alcove
or bay windows, two private baths and kitchenettes
in some suites.
COURTYARD APARTMENTS
Connected by a covered walkway to our main retirement
center buildings, these one and two-bedroom apartments
surround a quaint courtyard. Apartment living at
a very affordable price.
HOUSES
Our one and two-bedroom homes range from 1200 to 2200
square feet, have carports or garages, a living
room, a dining room or area, a full kitchen, and
ample storage. Most also feature spacious sunrooms.
STOCKTON BUILDING
Spacious one and two-bedroom apartments ranging in
size from 991 square feet to over 1800 square feet.
These beautiful apartments feature fully equipped
kitchens, washers/dryers in every apartment. Conveniently
located near dining rooms. Undercover parking available.
ASSISTED LIVING
Arbor Acres offers two levels of licensed Assisted
Living within which residents receive support according
to their needs. They are economically furnished
in a warm, home-like setting.
SKILLED NURSING
Available in the Fitzgerald Health Center. Skilled nursing
care is furnished professionally, compassionately, and
at the highest level of quality in a warm, residential
setting.
What health support services are available to residents?
Health Services include fitness consultation and instruction, dietetic counseling, nursing consultation in a private on-campus physician's clinic, emergency response 24 hours a day, full assisted living, and skilled nursing care. Physician services, podiatry service, rehabilitation and home health care services are also available.

What fees are associated with residency?
The costs are:
ENTRANCE FEES
The Entrance Fee is a one-time payment prior to
becoming a resident. It varies according to the type
of residence one occupies, not according to one's
assets. Entrance fees are refundable until they are
fully amortized.
MONTHLY FEES
The monthly fee is designed to cover the costs of services
provided to our residents and the costs associated with
their use of facilities and available amenities.
DAILY HEALTH CARE FEES
These fees cover the cost of delivering high quality
nursing care and support 24 hours a day.
What type of food service is provided?
Three nutritionally-balanced meals are served in our dining rooms daily. Breakfast groceries can be picked up by our residents on the meal plan if they choose to have breakfast in their rooms. For residents living in courtyard apartments and maisonettes who are not on our meal plan, reservations can be made for themselves and/or their guests for any meal in our dining room. Arbor Acres also assists residents with special dietary needs.
Are social and religious activities planned at Arbor Acres?
A full schedule of optional events and religious outreach programs enriches resident life.
Do you take direct admissions to skilled nursing care?
We take direct admissions to licensed levels of care (assisted living and skilled nursing) when rooms are available.
Are resident required to participate in a meal plan?
In independent living accommodations, residents participate in one of the three meal plans: All-Inclusive, 20 Meals/Month, or the Declining Balance Plans.
