Seniors and Summer Adventures

Stay Healthy By Traveling

By definition an adventure is “an unusual and exciting experience or activity.” Who wouldn’t want to go on an adventure, especially if you found out you could stay healthy by traveling.  That’s right, some researchers argue traveling can be good for senior health.

According to SeniorsGuide.com getting outside of your home and normal routine promotes additional physical activity. As we age, we need more mental and physical stimulation.  So a trip to the park, the local winery, the zoo or sightseeing in a new city means you are walking more than normal. That extra exercise strengthens your body and sharpens your mind as you think about directions, read information, and learn about your surroundings.

Even if you aren’t on a sightseeing adventure but instead relaxing on a white, sandy beach, guess what, you’re still exercising and helping yourself. That’s right you’re still engaging your mind in new and different activities and the fresh air, change of scenery, and simply being outdoors gives your mind and body a boost according to the website.

So our residents need to get ready to exercise the brain and strengthen the mind, as the Arbor Acres adventures are beginning. From a day trip to Flint Hill Vineyard, the Diastole Alpaca Farm, and the North Carolina Zoo we are hitting the road over the next several months with a variety of activity.  How about an evening at the Kernersville Little Theatre, or Lees-McRae College Theater, perhaps a trip to the farmer’s market or an overnighter in Flat Rock? Over the next few months Arbor Acres has more than a dozen opportunities for adventure!
